Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Executive Council Surprise Turn-Around, More Shots Now Available: Gov. Christopher Sununu praised N.H. Executive Council's 4-0 vote to accept $22 million in federal funding to help N.H.'s COVID-19 vaccination efforts. The Council had previously rejected $27 million in federal funding last month along party lines, but Sununu condemned the vote saying that Republican councilors' actions were "reckless," taking away tools the state needs to save lives against the deadly delta variant. Last month's vote delayed the state's rollout of booster shots and vaccinations for children, according to Commissioner Lori Shibinette of the state Department of Health and Human Services. New Hampshire had four deaths and 801 new infections in one day, yesterday. The governor praised the Executive Council's decision to accept funds that will make vaccines available for those who want them to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in the state. (WMUR)
- Christmas Stroll Tickets: The Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth will have their “Candlelight Stroll Under the Stars” this year over three weekends in December starting Saturday, Dec. 4. The online-only ticket sales for the 2021 celebration started on Wednesday, Nov. 3. Lawrence J. Yerdon, the museum’s president and chief executive officer, said that although the event will be entirely outside this year, “this event remains a cherished holiday tradition for families.” Nashua's annual Winter Holiday Stroll for 2021 has been canceled due to the current COVID-19 situation in the city, Great American Downtown officials announced Friday. - One Billion Dollars Is Heading To New Hampshire: That's the Granite State's share of the new $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package. If you have ever driven over a rusting bridge in New Hampshire and wonder if it's safe, you may have encountered one of the state’s 341 “red list” bridges, which have been identified as structurally deficient. But help is on the way. “Over a billion dollars coming to New Hampshire,” said Congresswoman Annie Kuster, standing with Democrats under a rusting bridge that crosses the Merrimack River. Among the projects likely to see funding are bridges, airports, outdated sewer systems, adding electric vehicle charging stations, and a proposed commuter rail line linking Boston with Nashua and Manchester. The 10 Year Transportation Plan for the state can now be expanded to include the additional federal money before it goes to the Executive Council for approval. (NHPR)
