Woman Crashes Vehicle On 101 And Runs Into Swamp Requiring Rescue

Maria Rosario of Manchester reportedly was throwing items out of the window of her car and hit a vehicle head-on near Liberty Hill Road.

BEDFORD, NH — Bedford police received reports of a vehicle being operated erratically on Route 101 Tuesday.

Witnesses reported the vehicle appeared to be operated by a woman throwing items out of a vehicle and on the wrong side of the road. Police said at about 5:45 p.m., the car they were attempting to locate crashed head-on into another vehicle near Liberty Hill Road. The operator exited the vehicle and ran into a swamp on the side of the road.

Bedford Fire responded to the scene and began to treat the occupants of the car that was struck, and other firefighters geared up to access the woman in the swamp. Police tried to negotiate with the woman to come out, and she reportedly went further toward the middle and away from the first responders trying to help her.

After an extended time, the woman, identified as Maria Rosario, 51, of Manchester, was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Rosario is charged with felony reckless conduct, conduct after an accident, resisting arrest, simple assault, and littering, according to police.

The operator of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries, and they were transported to a local hospital.

Rosario is being held on preventative detention, she will be arraigned on Wednesday in Merrimack District Court.
