Breault: Stop An Out Of Place Development On The Merrimack River

Penacook resident: The project, 944 new living units at the former Concord Monitor facility, is too large and wrong for our village.

An out-of-town developer has come up with an out-of-place plan, Monitor Way, to put 944 living units and many stores bordering the Merrimack River in Penacook.

PENACOOK, NH — An out-of-town developer has come up with an out-of-place plan, Monitor Way, to put 944 living units and many stores bordering the Merrimack River in Penacook.

It would begin at the Wheelabrator plant and end at the Monitor building on Sewalls Falls Road. It would involve the destruction of a beautiful forest and a wildlife habitat along the river. This is a terrible place to put more housing.

This would be totally against the Concord Conservation Commission policy, which is to develop a coherent interconnected system of permanently protected open spaces in the Merrimack River Corridor, which runs from Canterbury to Bow.

An impossible traffic situation would emerge. At one end, the Market Basket store is already overcrowded from locals and more. Add another 1,900 cars from a proposed development — impossible. Taking the proposed exit to Sewalls Falls Rd., Mountain Road, Manor Road, etc., would see a chaotic, disruptive flow of many cars. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

And don't forget, Penacook is a small town noted as a village where such huge developments don't belong.

The developer is trying to get TIF money to develop a proposed road on the site. NO< NO< NO. It's his plan, use his money. Save tax money for schools, etc.!

Speak now or forever hold your peace.

You can contact Concord City Zoning, Planning, your councilman, etc., and attend a meeting of the Concord Conservation Commission On April 10 at 7 p.m. at Concord City Hall, 37 Green St., 2nd floor.
