Concord Man Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Pittsfield Crash

CONCORD, N.H. — A Concord man is facing a slew of charges, including felony drug and weapon possession, after a Saturday morning police pursuit that began in Concord and ended with a crash into a tree in Pittsfield.

The incident began Saturday at 2:17 a.m., when State Police dispatch received a report that a driver had fled from Concord Police who attempted a traffic stop for misuse of plates.

A Trooper from Troop D quickly located the vehicle, a maroon 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. After the driver again failed to stop, a high-speed pursuit ensued.

The chase went through several towns, state police said Travis Bennett Lufkin, 24, of Concord, led police from Interstate 393 eastbound onto Route 9 in Chichester.

According to police, Lufkin then ran a red light and continued onto backroads, allegedly speeding and running multiple stop signs. The pursuit finally headed north on Route 28 into Pittsfield, where it came to an end.

Lufkin's vehicle crashed into a tree near the intersection of Dowboro Road and Western Mills Road. He briefly fled the scene on foot into the woods before returning and being taken into custody.

Lufkin has been charged with numerous offenses, including felony possession of a controlled drug and felon in possession of a deadly weapon. Other charges include reckless conduct, disobeying an officer, aggravated DUI, reckless operation, operating after suspension, misuse of plates, driving on a divided way-crossing the median, and violation of a traffic control device.

Lufkin is currently being held at the Merrimack County Jail on preventive detention. He is scheduled for arraignment in Concord District Court on Tuesday.

A female passenger in the Equinox was transported to Concord Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

Neither Lufkin nor the responding State Troopers were injured during the incident. State Troopers received assistance at the scene from members of the Pittsfield police and fire departments.
