Dangerously Hot Conditions, Heat Index In New Hampshire; Rain Expected Before The Weekend
Forecasters: Extreme heat warning runs through Tuesday night in Hillsborough and Merrimack counties. Plus: Lightning safety week.
CONCORD, NH — Forecasters are warning of hot weather for part of the week, with a cooldown after rain moves into the region Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued an “extreme heat warning” around 3 p.m. on Monday for Hillsborough and Merrimack counties, warning of “dangerously hot conditions” with “heat index values” of up to 107.
“Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events,” the alert stated.

Precautionary tips include drinking plenty of fluids, staying inside in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors.

“Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles,” the alert said. “Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.”
The warning runs through Tuesday night.
Forecasters expect temperatures to be as high as 99 degrees on Tuesday in Concord and the capital region, with sunny skies. Nashua and central and southern New Hampshire communities will see temperatures as high as 101 degrees. The Seacoast will be slightly cooler, around 97 degrees. Wind gusts will be as high as 20 mph. Overnight lows will be in the lower 70s.
It will be a tad cooler on Wednesday — near 90 in Concord and the Seacoast, but over 90 in Nashua. Lows will drop into the mid-60s during the overnight hours.
Showers move into the state on Thursday morning and temperatures will be in the mid-70s. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 50s.
The rain continues into Friday and Saturday, with the sun returning on Sunday.
