Elderly Woman Dies, Police Say Grandson Fatally Beat Her With A Hammer

EASTON, NH - A 76-year-old grandmother is dead in Easton after police say her grandson killed her with a hammer.

A call was placed to 911 Saturday at about 11:41 a.m., reporting a medical emergency at 44 North Peak Drive. New Hampshire State Police entered the residence and found Cynthia Lanchester on the ground and appeared to be suffering from a blunt-force trauma wound.

State police say they located Joshua Lanchester, 23 the victims grandson at the residence. New Hampshire Attorney General Director of Communication said that "Mr. Lanchester was arrested and charged with one count of Second-Degree Murder, contrary to RSA 630:1-b, I(b), for recklessly causing the death of Cynthia Lanchester with a deadly weapon, a hammer.”

New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit worked at the scene with the NH Attorney Generals Office processing the scene throughout the day Saturday.

The suspect is currently being held without bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday in the 2nd Circuit Court - District Division in Littleton.
