Firefighters From Hooksett, Manchester, And Candia Battle Brush Fire

The brush fire on Smyth Road in Hooksett reminds us why fire departments ask people not to burn anything due to the dangerous conditions.

HOOKSETT, NH — Hooksett firefighters responded to Smyth Road for a report that items being burned in a fire pit had started a brush fire on Friday.

On arrival, Hooksett Fire had fire spreading into the wood line from the house's backyard. Additional apparatus was requested, and mutual aid from the Manchester and Candia fire departments. Firefighters used water on the engines and tankers and did not require any other water supply to be set up.

Despite high winds and dry conditions, the fire was held to less than an acre on the property where it started and an adjacent property.

Hooksett police assisted with traffic in the area; however, the road did not need to be closed.

Hooksett Fire recently announced on social media that “burn permits will be shut off until Sunday morning due to the dry ground cover and high winds. Seasonal permit holders should not be burning during this time, either. We ask EVERYONE in the general public to be very conscientious about disposal of smoking materials or ash during this high-risk time."

Several communities have had large brush fires in New Hampshire; everyone should be reminded of the dangerous conditions.
