Labor Day 2025 Grocery And Retail Store Hours In NH; What’s Open, What’s Closed
Many stores, malls, and other retail businesses will be open on Labor Day, while government institutions and banks will be closed.
NEW HAMPSHIRE — There are plenty of stores where Granite Staters can spend their hard-earned money on Labor Day, but they’ll be out of luck if they want to take care of banking or government business on Monday.
Banks are closed on Labor Day. Similarly, the U.S. Postal Service and non-emergency government offices, whether at the local, state, or federal level, are closed. Millions of working Americans outside the retail sector get a paid holiday for Labor Day, which became a federal holiday in 1894 to recognize workers’ contributions to the nation’s strength, prosperity, and well-being during the Industrial Revolution.
Retail stores, including grocery stores such as Hannaford, Market Basket, Shaw’s, and Trader Joe’s, as well as home improvement stores like Lowe’s and The Home Depot, and big-box stores like Target and Walmart, will, for the most part, operate regular hours during the long weekend.

Kohl's, JCPenney, TJ Maxx, and other department stores will be open, although hours may vary by location. Most fast-food restaurants and convenience stores will be open as usual.
