CONCORD, NH — A Manchester man serving a 10-to-20-year sentence for a 2019 shooting has been indicted on a new felony charge for allegedly bringing drugs into the New Hampshire State Prison for Men.

Aweis Khamis, 24, was indicted by the Merrimack County Grand Jury on a felony count of delivery of articles to prisoners. According to court paperwork, the charge stems from an incident on May 9 where Khamis was allegedly in possession of a quantity of the controlled drug MDMB-4en-PINACA, also known as "K2."

The indictment states he possessed the substance without the knowledge or permission of the commissioner of corrections.

Khamis was sentenced in December 2021 after pleading guilty in connection with the shooting at the Red Arrow Diner in Manchester. At that time, the judge offered an incentive to reduce his sentence to six years if he earned a bachelor's degree while in prison.
