Concord Man Strangles Golden Retriever: Police

CONCORD, NH — A Concord man was arrested Wednesday after police said broke into a random apartment naked, strangled a dog and threw glass shards at officers, police said. Irakoze Ildephones, 28 (pictured), faces a host of charges. The dog was seriously hurt but expected to survive.

The incident happened Wednesday at about 3 p.m. at a Cherry Street apartment complex, police said. Residents said Ildephones was climbed a wall naked then smashed through the glass door of a random apartment with two people and a golden retriever inside, according to Concord police Lieutenant Sean Ford. The two residents ran out and locked themselves in a car.

"Responding officers observed Mr. Ildephones vandalizing the apartment, throwing property off of the porch, and stomping on broken glass," Ford said in a statement. "The officers attempted to negotiate with the male from outside of the apartment to no avail. Mr. Ildephones began to throw shards of glass at the officers, forcing them to take cover. Officer could hear the victim family’s dog barking very loudly and then go silent when Mr. Ildephones went into the residence."

Officers stormed the apartment and tasered Ildephones, Ford said.

"Even though he had been tased Mr. Ildephones actively struggled with officers and it took several officers to gain control of him and secure him into handcuffs," Ford added.

Ildephones was hospitalized then jailed. He was held on $15,000 bail pending an arraignment. He was charged with animal cruelty, burglary, indecent exposure, assault, reckless conduct and criminal mischief.
