Owen Labrie Asks Judge To Suspend Sex Assault Sentence
Former St. Paul's School student Owen Labrie was convicted of sexually assaulting another student as part of a "Senior Salute" ritual.

CONCORD, NH -- Owen Labrie, the former St. Paul's School prep student convicted of sexually assaulting a fellow student as part of a "Senior Salute" ritual, recently asked a judge to suspend his sentence. Labrie, 23, was found guilty of statutory rape -- among other charges -- and sentenced to a year in jail. Labrie was 18 and the victim was 15 when they had a sexual encounter in 2015, prosecutors said. The victim said in court she felt "violated in every way."
Last week, Labrie's attorney filed a legal request asking a judge to suspend his sentence. In response, the victim's attorney asked the judge to keep Labrie's sentence as is.
Labrie moved to Vermont and is living at a residence with an electronic monitoring device. He served two months in jail in 2016 for violating bail conditions.

"Mr. Labrie has been fully compliant with his bail conditions for over two years," his attorney wrote, adding Labrie has a full-time job.
A state prosecutor said those arguments are "not persuasive," adding the victim in the case objects to the suspension of Labrie's sentence.

"(Labrie) is expected to follow bail conditions," Assistant Merrimack County Attorney Joseph Cherniske wrote.
