Stormy Daniels' Lawyer Campaigns In NH Amid 2020 Talk

Michael Avenatti, Stormy Daniels' lawyer, traveled to New Hampshire to speak to key Democrats. He said he may run for president in 2020.

GREENFIELD, NH — Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels who is also considering a 2020 presidential run, campaigned in New Hampshire Sunday afternoon at a key Democratic event. Avenatti spokes at the Hillsborough County Democrats' annual summer picnic in Greenfield.

"Some of you may be thinking, 'What is some porn star lawyer doing here today to talk to us about our republic and our party?'" Avenatti told the crowd. "In normal times I would not be with you today … but these, as you know, are anything but normal times."

Avenatti said he's advocating for Mexican families separated at the border for crossing illegally.

"If we want a more inclusive, tolerant, compassionate ... America, we must be willing to do battle for it," he told the crowd.

Avenatti graduated from George Washington Law School in 2000 and has been a lawyer ever since. He said President Trump coerced Daniels into staying silent about the pair's alleged affair. Daniels sued Trump for defamation.

"He's a bully," Avenatti said of Trump. He added he would relish the opportunity to debate Trump.

"He doesn't like people that punch back and I think I would be incredibly effective against him. I don't think he's very quick on his feet. I don't think he's very intelligent."

Trump has not made any public statements about Avenatti — not even a tweet.

Avenatti, 47, first announced he was exploring a presidential bid earlier this month in Iowa — another key state in the early presidential nominating process.

"I’m exploring a run for the presidency of the United States, and I wanted to come to Iowa and listen to people," Avenatti told the Des Moines Register in an interview August 9.

Other candidates mentioned as possible Democratic presidential hopefuls include former Vice President Joe Biden, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker.
