Thousands Raised For Family Of Boscawen Man Killed During House Fire: Follow-Up

BOSCAWEN, NH — The family of a man who died in a house fire on Monday night is asking for assistance to offset his funeral costs.

Ronald Fowler Jr., 66, of Boscawen, died during a house fire on Gage Street in Boscawen on Monday night. The fire went to 2 alarms, with firefighters from Concord and other communities assisting. Fowler’s manner of death is pending, but his cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation, according to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

State Fire Marshal Sean Toomey said Wednesday the cause and origin of the fire was ongoing.

Chrystal Fowler-Griffith, Ronald’s daughter, posted a GoFundMe effort on Tuesday, asking for assistance, saying she hated the circumstances and did not want to ask for help. In a note to supporters, she explained what happened that night and the surprise of seeing so many firefighters tackling the blaze, and the shock of the news her father had died.

“This whole situation doesn't seem real,” Fowler-Griffith said. “We are all devastated over this loss and in complete shock and disbelief over the way in which he was taken from us.”

Fowler-Griffith said she knew it was difficult to ask others for assistance at Christmas time. But her father did not have life insurance or retirement funds, so the family had to incur the cost.

At the time of publication, 67 donations had been made, and more than $3,600 had been raised.
