"1623: The Untold Story of New Hampshire's Founding Family"

Stratham...Monday, Sept. 8, 2025 at 7:00 p.m., J. Dennis Robinson will present: "1623: The Untold Story of New Hampshire's Founding Family". The presentation is sponsored by the Stratham Historical Society and Wiggin Memorial Library, and made possible by a New Hampshire Humanities Grant.

Mr. Robinson is a renowned author, lecturer, and historian throughout our area. He has authored numerous books, including his latest, "1623". He is a resident of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This book is a compelling narrative on New Hampshire's founder, David Thompson. "1623" reveals the all-but-forgotten life of David Thompson, his family and their relationship to an island in the Boston Harbor. It captures what really happened in the early years of European colonization, and what really happened around David Thompson's settlement.

Why do we know so little about David and Amias Thompson of Plymouth, England? And why is the little we know so often wrong? Our first European couple "settled" at Rye, NH in 1623. Within five years the Thompsons had abandoned their fishing and trading outpost and disappeared from Granite State history. This popular author, J. Dennis Robinson, explores the era, unearths the facts and debunks the myths of our rocky 400-year-old origin tale.
