Exeter DAR News Roundup, Fall 2025

Looking back...looking ahead

Fall greetings from the Exeter Daughters of the American Revolution! We are a dynamic group of 74 women from all over the Greater Exeter area. Our chapter has been doing service-projects of all types in Exeter for over 125 years. Here is a roundup of some recent news...

Looking back - The Exeter DAR partnered with the American Independence Museum to host a free lecture in honor of the annual "Constitution Week" (Sept 17-23). Retired NH State Archivist, Brian Burford, and Keene professor and archivist, Rodney Obien, presented an engaging lecture on thier "Meshech Weare Papers Project." If you missed the lecture, the Exeter DAR will bring these two back in the spring, by public demand. (Follow our Facebook page for the tba date.) Who knew history could be so much fun?

Speaking of fun - have you seen the new fall floral set in our adopt-a-garden? Mums, scarecrows and pumpkins grace the sidewalk in front of the Exeter Town Offices, in the historic granite horse watering trough.

Earlier this year, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Exeter DAR partnered with Exeter TV to produce a public service announcement video about the Exeter Powder House. See the video here. This free video short can be used in the classroom to help history come alive.

OCT: Calling all genealogy nerds! The Exeter DAR has partnered with the Exeter Public Library to host free genealogy workshops a few times a year. The next workshop is on Mon, Oct. 27th from 4-6pm in the third floor meeting room. Bring the names and dates of your first three generations and the DAR will help you go back in time. Bring your own laptop, or use one of the free ones at the library. Everyone will have access to EPL's free Ancestry.com account

NOV: The Exeter DAR honors veterans and active-duty troops each fall during Veterans Week with a 600-flag "Field of Flags" display at Stratham Hill Park all week long. Each flag is marked with the name of a service person. So add your special people in to this moving display, and then bring them over to view it! Paper order forms are in both the Exeter and Stratham Town Offices. New this year - you may also order a flag online with a credit card. We are catching up with the digital era, finally :) Only $5 per name.
