Man Charged in Beating Death Held on $250K

Zachary O'Neill's case will now be forwarded to a Rockingham County Grand Jury for possible indictment.

A Dover man charged with beating another man to death over a spilled drink at The Page Sports Bar and Restaurant waived probable cause on Wednesday morning in Portsmouth Circuit Court.

Zachary O'Neill, 24, of 12 New York St. in Dover, appeared in court dressed in a Rockingham County Jail orange jump suit with his defense lawyers, Attorneys Kristen Guilmette and Christine List, of the Public Defender's office. Judge Sawato Gardner also maintained his bail at $250,000 cash only.

O'Neill was was arrested for a felony count of first-degree assault on April 9 by New Hampshire State Police in Rochester. During his arraignment on April 10, Portsmouth Police Prosecutor David Colby said  at The Page on the dance floor of the Stadium Lounge on Saturday night at closing time "because he didn't want to wreck his evening."

Krantz refused medical treatment offered by The Page's security staff after O'Neill was escorted out of the establishment and was later taken home by some of his friends. Krantz later died after he sustained a fractured skull in the attack that resulted in an acute epidural hematoma.

Since the beating death occurred, The Page's owners have closed the Stadium Lounge and hope to transform it into a new restaurant.
