Manchester Man Seriously Injured In Fremont Dirt Bike Crash

Boston MedFlight flew Matthew O'Rourke to a Boston Hospital for treatment. The crash occurred on the Rockingham Recreation Trail in Fremont.

FREMONT, NH — A Manchester man was seriously injured in a dirt bike accident Sunday in Fremont and was flown to a Massachusetts hospital.

Matthew O’Rourke, 26, lost control of a dirt bike, veered off the side of the Rockingham Recreation Trail, and struck a tree shortly before 1 p.m., according to New Hampshire Fish and Game. He was thrown from the bike and suffered potentially life-threatening injuries during the crash, Conservation Officers said. Due to the serious injuries, Boston MedFlight was requested to a landing zone set up near where the incident occurred on the Rockingham Recreation Trail in Fremont.

First responders from Raymond, Plaistow, and Fremont provided medical aid at the crash scene and prepared him to be transported to the landing zone.

Brentwood Fire set up and coordinated a landing zone behind the Ellis Elementary School. O’Rourke was given medical aid by Boston MedFlight medics and then flown to a Boston hospital from the scene.

Officers said that speed was a possible factor, according to witnesses. At this time, it is unknown if he was wearing a helmet.

No information on his current condition; however, the injuries were described as potentially life-threatening.
