Newmarket Man Arrested On Drunken Driving Charge After Exeter Crash; 4 Vehicles Damaged
Edward Burke was charged with DUI, accused of crashing into a parked SUV, which caused a chain reaction of crashes on Court Street Saturday.

EXETER, NH — A man from Newmarket will be in court next month after being accused of drunken driving after a crash in Exeter Saturday.
Around 3:30 p.m., police were sent to a report of an accident on Court Street near Elliot Street. An officer stationed at the intersection “heard the collision and made the report,” Chief Stephan Poulin of the Exeter Police Department.
Officers arrived and determined a driver, Edward Burke, 73, of Newmarket, was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram south when he crashed into the rear of a parked SUV, he said. The other vehicle was legally parked at the time.

“The force of the collision sent a chain reaction to the struck vehicle pushing it forward into another parked vehicle,” Poulin said, “and then that car into a third parked vehicle, and then on to striking a fourth.”
After investigating the crash, Burke was charged with driving under the influence. He was released on personal recognizance and is due in Brentwood District Court on March 2.

“It was very fortunate that no one was injured during this incident as the timing was aligned with many students and parents crossing in the immediate area during the Phillips Exeter/Andover games,” Poulin added.
