State Asks Public's Help in Finding Lizzi Marriott

New Hampshire authorities say they are certain that Seth Mazzaglia murdered University of New Hampshire student Elizabeth Marriott inside of his Dover apartment on Oct. 9, but they want the public's help to find her body.

New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said the search around Peirce Island in Portsmouth for Marriott's body will continue for at least several more days and more tools such as cadaver dogs may be brought in to aid the search.

Young said New Hampshire Marine Patrol boats have been combing the waters near Peirce Island with sonar cameras to try to locate the 19-year-old Marriott's body.

"The eddies and currents are pretty challenging," she said.

Young, New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General James Vara and Dover Police Chief Anthony Colarusso held a press conference outside of the Dover District Court at 3:30 p.m. to update the media about the status of the search to locate Marriott's body. Young said that Mazzaglia strangled and suffocated Marriott inside of his apartment located at 1 Mill St., Apt. 341 on Oct. 9, but she would not provide any other details about what he may have done with her body.

Mazzaglia was ordered held without bail in the Strafford County Jail in Dover during his arraignment in Dover District Court on Monday morning. He is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing on Oct. 29 at 10 a.m.

Young also did not provide any additional details about Mazzaglia's relationship with the victim. "They were familiar with one another and this was not a random event," she said.

Young said New Hampshire authorities plan to reach out to authorities in Maine and Massachusetts to make them aware of the situation and be on the look out in case Marriott's body happens to be spotted in their coastal waters. But Young said New Hampshire authorities are prepared to keep searching for Marriott's body as long as it takes.

"We have not discussed an end date. We have discussed continuing this," Young said.

She also said members of the public who may have any information that can help them locate Marriott's body should contact Dover Police at (603) 742-4646 or the Dover Police Crimeline at (603) 749-6000, if they wish to remain anonymous.

"We are looking for any information that may help us with this investigation," Young said.
