Suspension for Student Bringing Loaded Gun to School

The Cooperative Middle School student faces disciplinary action for "bad choice."

The student who brought a loaded gun to Cooperative Middle School in Stratham on April 29 was suspended and could face additional disciplinary action, according to WMUR.

The school was briefly locked down when Principal Bill Furbush learned of the incident and Superintendent Mike Morgan alerted Stratham police.

After officers investigated, police and school officials determined there was no threat to the school or community.

Morgan, in an email to Exeter Patch, said that "it was determined that the the student had no ill intent whatsoever but simply wanted to show a classmate that he had easy access to weapons."

Furbush, in an announcement to parents, said it was an incident in which "a child made a bad choice and did not understand the severity of his choice."

While police continue to investigate, the incident rattled the greater Stratham community. SAU 16 has its headquarters in Exeter.
