Sentence Coming for Woman in Local Prostitution Ring

A Manchester woman who pleaded guilty to prostitution for her role in an Exeter psychologist's alleged prostitution operation this summer will be sentenced at a later date after the judge did not accept her plea.

Brooke Parent, 21, of Manchester, pleaded guilty to a Class B misdemeanor of prostitution as part of a negotiated plea deal she struck with the state, but Portsmouth Circuit Court Judge Sawato Gardner did not accept it after she learned that Parent had been arrested two more times for prostitution in Manchester following her arrest in Portsmouth on Aug. 2., according to Portsmouth Police Prosecutor David Colby.

Colby said the judge wanted more information as to why the state recommended a $1,000 fine with half of its suspended for a year with good behavior given Parent's additional prostitution arrests. Colby said Tuesday afternoon he did not have the information available for the judge, which is why the judge continued Parent's sentencing to a later date.

Parent was then escorted out of the courtroom by Rockingham County Sheriff's deputies to the Hillsborough County Jail in Manchester where she continues to be held for two other prostitution arrests that occurred in that city two weeks after she was arrested in Portsmouth. Parent was subsequently arrested twice for prostitution in Manchester after she solicited two undercover Manchester Police detectives on the same day.

According to the affidavit filed Portsmouth Police Det. Rochelle Jones, Parent said she was hired by Marino to sell limited sexual services in his Sagamore Court apartment in July. Parent told police could not provide full sexual services because she was pregnant.

Marino, who remains free on $10,000 cash bail or corporate surety bond, is scheduled to have his trial in Portsmouth Circuit Court on Jan. 15, 2013, at 8:30 a.m., according to court documents. He entered a not guilty plea to charges of prostitution and selling controlled narcotic drugs.

Portsmouth Police conducted a 10-month investigation into the alleged prostitution operation before they raided Marino's apartment on Aug. 2. Jim Parra, 22, of Kittery, Maine, was arrested for solicitation and Parent was charged, but Marino remained at large for a few weeks. Police issued a warrant for his arrest and Marino turned himself in.

According to Portsmouth Police, Marino used his apartment for prostitution where he advertised serves on backpage.com and had male clients go to the apartment complex before they entered the apartment to receive services. Police first learned about the prostitution activity in October 2011 and conducted surveillance in August before they arrested Marino, Parent and Parra.
