12 Enter Race for Town, School Office on Filing Day

A multi-tiered race for the Hampton Board of Selectmen is already beginning to take shape after the first official day of the filing period for area town and school offices.

Incumbent Selectman Mike Pierce and current Hampton School Board member Rusty Bridle submitted paperwork for one of the three-year terms available on the board, while incumbent Mike Plouffe and former Republican State Rep. Jim Waddell filed for the one-year seat currently held by Plouffe.

Chairman Dick Nichols, the other incumbent in the race, hadn't yet filed reelection paperwork as of Wednesday afternoon.

The four selectmen candidates were among 12 total individuals who filed Wednesday for office in the various town of Hampton, Hampton School District and Winnacunnet School District races, according to Jane Marzinzik, the clerk for those respective entities.

"It was kind of slow for the first day, but people are funny," said Marzinzik.

A number of other incumbents filed for office on Wednesday, including Town Moderator Bob Casassa, trustee of the trust fund Stephen Falzone, library trustee Deborah Knowlton, Hampton Zoning Board member Ed St. Pierre, Hampton Budget Committee member David Wood, and Winnacunnet Budget Committee member Don Janik.

As expected, former WHS ROTC instructor Fran Henderson and former Hampton Academy Assistant Principal Andrea Shepard filed Wednesday for the Seabrook representative seat on the Winnacunnet School Board and the Hampton School Board, respectively.

North Hampton town and school candidates weren't immediately available Wednesday.
