6th Candidate Enters Competitive Hampton Selectmen Race

Monday brought another opportunity for candidates to file for elected office, and yet again another individual has made the race for three selectmen seats even more crowded.

Joe Grzybowski, a 2012 Hampton Budget Committee candidate, officially submitted his paperwork Monday for one of the two available three-year terms, according to Town Clerk Jane Cypher.

Grzybowski joins incumbent Selectman Mike Pierce, former Selectmen Chairman Rick Griffin and Hampton School Board member Rusty Bridle in the race for a three-year term.

Current Chairman Dick Nichols, who is up for reelection for the other three-year term available this March, hasn't yet filed, according to Cypher. Nichols has said that he is "not going to decide until sometime" this week whether to run for reelection.

The other seat available is a one-year position. The seat belongs to Selectman Mike Plouffe, who replaced a resigned Ben Moore last summer. Plouffe and former Republican State Rep. Jim Waddell have filed candidacy paperwork for the position.

Cypher said other candidates who filed Monday include incumbent library Bob Lamothe (3-year term), Sharon Fontaine (library trustee - 1-year term), and incumbent Winnacunnet School District Moderator Robert "Renny" Cushing (1-year term).

Twenty individuals have filed in Hampton thus far. A full list of the available local town and school offices is available here.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Jan. 31 to apply for the positions. Hampton and Winnacunnet High School candidates should apply at the Hampton Town Clerk's Office at Town Hall, while North Hampton candidates should apply at the North Hampton Town Clerk's Office.

Hampton town and school elections and warrant article voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, in the Winnacunnet High School dining hall.

North Hampton town and school elections and warrant article voting will take place at North Hampton Town Hall from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11.
