$80K Sewer Among Petitioned Articles as 1st Deadline Passes

             Wednesday was the deadline for zoning-related petitioned warranted in the town of Hampton, and a total of three articles have been submitted thus far.

The largest of those three is a private petition for the installation of a gravity sewer system for six homes on the eastern end of Holman Lane. The $80,000 article was submitted by residents of Holman Lane, who state in their petition that the current sewer ejector pumping systems are failing.

If approved by voters at town meeting in March, the six homes would connect to the new sewer line at their own expense.

Experience Hampton Inc. has also submitted a private petition for $3,000 to cover the cost of the 2014 Hampton Christmas Parade and associated activities. Their petitioned article is an annual request.

The other petitioned article received is one from Child and Family Services, which this year is asking for $1,000 more than its usual $5,000 grant from the town in order to cover the cost of significant increases in requests for the agency's services in Hampton.

The petition states that 147 Hampton residents received 1,139 units of free and reduced services from the agency between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013.

The cost of those services is valued at over $103,000 and is nearly double the what was provided in the previous year, in which the agency served 56 residents and provided 816 units or $55,000 in free or reduced services, according to Child and Family Services.

Residents still have time to gather signatures and submit private warrant articles. The deadline to submit them to the town is Jan. 14.
