Good morning, Hampton and North Hampton. Here are five things you need to know for Friday, May 17:
1. Today's Top Thing: North Hampton selectmen will meet at 10:30 a.m. as part of a special workshop to discuss the town's participation in the mutual aid program, particularly after issues and conversations have surfaced over fairness due to the fact that the Stratham Fire Department allegedly doesn't respond to North Hampton incidents.

3. What Else Is Happening Today? Chief Michael Maloney and other fallen officers will be honored during a ceremony at the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Memorial in Concord at 10 a.m.
Also, today is the 11th annual Seacoast Bike/Walk to Work Day, and the festivities start with a breakfast at Gus' Bike Shop. Speaking of local businesses, Restaurant Week in New Hampshire 2013 begins today and continues through May 24.
4. This Day in History: On this day in 1954, in a major civil rights victory, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down an unanimous decision in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, ruling that racial segregation in public educational facilities is unconstitutional.
The historic decision, which brought an end to federal tolerance of racial segregation, specifically dealt with Linda Brown, a young African American girl who had been denied admission to her local elementary school in Topeka, Kansas, because of the color of her skin.
