EAST KINGSTON — Members of the East Kingston Fire Department assisted in rescuing a horse that slipped and fell Wednesday, Chief Ed Warren said.

On Wednesday, rescuers responded to Hidden Hollow Farm at 78 Depot Road for a report of a fallen horse around 5:15 p.m.

Once officers got to the farm, they realized the horse, named Pearl, had slipped on ice outside her barn and was unable to get up.

The Fire Department requested assistance from Patriot Equine Rescue, who brought specialized equipment, including a harness, to the scene. First responders attached the harness to the horse and were able to use a front-end loader to successfully lift the horse back onto her feet and lead her back to the barn.

A local veterinarian also responded to the scene and sedated the horse during the rescue process.

The scene was cleared at approximately 7:45 p.m.

"This rescue required a lot of manpower, teamwork and cooperation, and I thank everyone who assisted throughout the process. I am very happy to report that Pearl is doing well at this time," said Chief Warren.

The horse was evaluated by the veterinarian on Thursday morning and is expected to have no lasting effects from the ordeal.
