Hampton Forum To Address Opioid Crisis, Recovery Options
On May 9 the Hampton Rotary Club will present an open forum on the opioid crisis, addressing recovery options and ways the public can help.
HAMPTON, NH — Aiming to bring help and awareness to the ongoing opioid crisis, seven local Rotary Clubs have joined forces in organizing comprehensive educational forums in their communities to address substance abuse disorder. In Hampton, the "Recovery With Hope and Dignity" forum will take place Thursday, May 9, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Winnacunnet High School auditorium. It will feature a multitude of speakers, as well as an open discussion about the disorder and the available treatment and recovery options.
Speakers will include Governor's Advisor on Addiction and Behavioral Health David Mara, recovery coach Leah Rothchild, SOS Recovery Community Centers Director John Burns, and Zero Left founders Jim and Jeannie Moser. Kennebunk, Maine, Police Chief Robert MacKenzie is also scheduled to speak.
The "Recovery With Hope and Dignity" forums are being presented by the Rotary Clubs of Hampton, Dover, Durham, Exeter, Portsmouth and Rochester, each organizing the forums in their own communities. Gov. Chris Sununu helped kick off the forum series in Exeter on March 5, and the forum in Portsmouth was held on April 11.
The forums are free and open to the public. All who are interested in learning about prevention, treatment, recovery and harm reduction are welcome to attend. Those who are unable to make it to the Hampton forum will have a chance to attend the June 3 event in nearby Dover, in the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Garrison Wing Auditorium, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
