Hampton-Area Runners Ready to Make Their Mark in Boston Marathon

Track runners from Hampton, North Hampton and the surrounding area here.

They run for all sorts of reasons: in memory of a loved one, to raise money for a cause ... and just to say, "I did it."

The 117th annual Boston Marathon takes place today (Monday, April 15), taking runners through the course that threads from the Hopkinton starting line to Boston.

As it states on the official website, "the Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world's most prestigious road racing events. The Boston Athletic Association manages this American classic, which is sponsored by John Hancock Financial Services. The Boston Marathon has distinguished itself as the pinnacle event within the sport of road racing by virtue of its traditions, longevity and method of gaining entry into the race (via qualification)."

So who's running from Hampton and North Hampton? Here is the updated list,  with information provided to Hampton-North Hampton Patch by the runners (where available):

Tammy Heim Carignan (Bib No. 24786)

This local, stay-at-home mother will make her Boston Marathon debut at age 42. Carignan, who has run two previous marathons and four half-marathons — including races in Hampton — will be raising money for cystic fibrosis, which is a cause close to her heart.

Linda Desjardins (Bib No. 20885)

This 65-year-old college professor is no stranger to marathons — Desjardins has run Boston six times in addition to six other marathons and slew of other races.
