Hampton's Favorite Birder Wins NH Fish and Game Award

A Hampton man was recently recognized for his work to build and enhance bird habitats along New Hampshire's coast.

Good morning, Hampton and North Hampton. Here are five things you need to know for Friday, May 10:

1. Today's Top Thing: Resident Dave Weber has been named this year's recipient of New Hampshire Fish and Game's Habitat Stewardship Award for his work to install and maintain four osprey nesting spots and over 250 bird houses along the Hampton salt marshes and the Seacoast area.

3. What Else Is Happening Today? "Art in Bloom," a three-day exhibition put on by the Hampton Arts Network and Hampton Garden Club, ends Friday.

Also, Lane Memorial Library is hosting a free showing of the movie "The Impossible" at 1 p.m.

4. This Day in History: On this day in 1869, the presidents of the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads met in Promontory, Utah, and drove a ceremonial last spike into a rail line that connected their railroads.

This made transcontinental railroad travel possible for the first time in U.S. history. No longer would western-bound travelers need to take the long and dangerous journey by wagon train, and the West lost some of its wild charm with the new connection to the civilized East.

5. Today's Forecast:

Day
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Night
A 50 percent chance of showers after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 53. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
