Local Jail Guard Seeks Second Chance with Burglary Pardon
Thomas Schoolcraft will find out next month whether he'll be able to continue his dreams and put his troubled past behind him.

A former Seabrook resident who served jail time for burglarizing Seacoast homes as a teenager in 2004 will seek a pardon from Gov. Maggie Hassan on Sept. 4 because he is "turning his life around" and would like to advance his career in law enforcement, according to an Associated Press story on Boston.com.
‘‘This is a very unusual path, and it becomes very difficult to navigate with a criminal record, but to me, this is my way of giving back,’’ reportedly said Thomas Schoolcraft, now a 28-year-old Cheshire County House of Corrections officer. The AP has reported he needs a pardon to advance past his position, as felons aren't allowed to work in a New Hampshire state prison, the probation or parole system, or for other law enforcement agencies.
