CONCORD, NH — A Greenland man has been charged with sexually assaulting a patient in a Rye long-term care facility. Hugh McIntyre, 69, of Greenland, was charged with simple assault, sexual assault and abuse of a facility resident. The Attorney General's Office and Rye Police Department announced his arrest on Wednesday.

According to the AG's Office, McIntyre intended to take advantage of an 86-year-old woman in a Rye memory care unit, by fondling her breast on Jan. 28. He was an employee of the facility at the time, said AG's Office Communications Director Kate Spade. All McIntyre's charges are Class A misdemeanors, though they carry a higher possible sentence because the charges involve an elderly victim or one with physical disability, according to the AG's Office.

McIntyre was arrested on Tuesday, April 2, according to the Rye police logs. He has pleaded not guilty and waived arraignment that had been scheduled for Friday. The AG's Office points out that charges against him are mere accusations. He is presumed innocent unless convicted in court.
