Marathon for Memorials: Hampton Teachers Join Big Effort Today

Sixteen Winnacunnet staff members will run today along with 67 other districts and 1,300 people in support of shooting victims.

On April 14, 2013, 350 teams, 1,300 participants representing 67 school districts and community groups throughout NH will gather at Gilford Elementary as educators, schools, children, parents, as well as a community to show our support and heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy. Two teams from Winnacunnet will be asked to complete 26 miles for each of the 26 victims. Each runner/walker has been asked to donate at least $1 per mile for each mile they complete. All proceeds will go to the 26.4.26 Foundation. The foundation was created out of an idea that became an inspirational movement in the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary on Dec 14, 2012. The mission of 26.4.26 is to provide funding for the families of victims, memorials for teacher heroes and to increase safety in schools across the country.

Winnacunnet is sending two teams to complete the 26 miles: Mr. Croteau, Ms. Seager, Ms. Roy, Mrs. Kirkland, Mr. McGowan, Ms. Turcotte, Mrs. Langmaid, Ms. Palacio, Mrs. Newcomb, Master Sergeant Paulino, Ms. Scott, Ms. Rhoades, Mr. Muthig, Mr. Oswald, Mrs. Bernier, and Mr. Spinney will all run a leg in the 26 miles. Instead of limiting our donation to the minimal required $52.00, we would like to bring together the entire Winnacunnet community and ask everyone in the building to donate $1.00 on Wednesday, April 10th. Donations may be brought to any team member, however, there will be envelopes in Mrs. Newcomb’s office, Mr. Oswald’s office, and the Main Office. Team members will also collect during all lunches! In December, we made hundreds of snowflakes – now let’s collect hundreds of dollars.
