The names of the pedestrian injured Sunday and the police officer were not released pending further investigation; roads closed for 4 hours.
HAMPTON, NH — The New Hampshire State Police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating how and why a Hampton police officer struck and injured a pedestrian on Ashworth Avenue Sunday.
Around 7:15 p.m., troopers were sent to a report of a crash between an officer driving a police cruiser and a pedestrian near the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Nudd Avenue. Hampton police requested the collision unit to respond and assume the lead on the investigation, Amber Lagace, a spokeswoman for state police, said.
“As a result of the crash,” she said, “the police officer operating the cruiser did not sustain any apparent injuries. However, the pedestrian sustained injuries, the extent of which remain unknown, and was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital. The identities of the police officer operating the cruiser and the pedestrian are being withheld as the investigation remains active and ongoing at this time.”
