NH to Combat Seacoast Sea Rise with Three New Laws

The governor will ceremoniously sign three bills to help address sea-level rise, the increased number of severe weather events, and more.

Continuing her efforts to protect New Hampshire’s natural resources, Governor Maggie Hassan will ceremonially sign at the Seacoast Science Center three laws aimed at improving the management of New Hampshire’s waterways, addressing sea-level rise, and protecting the Great Bay.

SB 163 establishes a coastal risk and hazards commission that will help the State prepare for projected sea-level rise and recommend smarter, more innovative ways to make New Hampshire’s communities resilient to the increasing number of severe weather events.

SB 164 authorizes local planning boards to include coastal management provisions in their master plans. HB 393 helps protect New Hampshire waterways such as the Great Bay from pollution by reducing the amount of nitrogen and phosphorous allowed in turf fertilizers that are sold in retail.
