Woodward's ​Oil Paintings On Display At North Hampton Public Library; Reception May 13

NORTH HAMPTON, NH — New Hampshire native Debra Woodward is happy to present a show of her oil paintings at the beautiful new library in the town of North Hampton where she has lived for over 30 years.

Debra has been a painting and drawing student of Adeline Goldminc-Tronzo in Eliot, Maine, since March 2021. She is immediate past board vice president at the Seacoast Artist Association in Exeter where she has also served as publicist as well as creator/organizer of their monthly reception music program. She was an exhibiting member there since 2016. An avid photographer since childhood, Debra studied for six years with Robert Chiller of West Newbury, Massachusetts. In 2017, she began taking oil painting workshops, including trips to Monhegan Island, with Amesbury oil painter Bob Richardson. Debra has since taken classes with Amy Brnger, Tom Glover, Lisa Regopoulos, Sue Spellman, and Colley Whisson. She has been a juried member of the NH Art Association in Portsmouth, since 2012 and previously served on their board of directors. She was accepted into several of their Lassonde Open Juried Exhibitions and Joan L. Dunfey Memorial Juried Exhibitions, as well as their juried Parfitt exhibitions. In 2017, her photograph “Escargot” won Honorable Mention. In the summer, she has shown her paintings and photos in the NHAA tent at the League of NH Craftsmen Fair in Sunapee and at the Sheafe Warehouse in Portsmouth. She has been accepted into several juried exhibits at the Newburyport Art Association and participated in the Lowell’s Boat House Holiday Open House in Amesbury, MA each December. The Aplomb Project Gallery in Dover featured her oil painting “Mennonite Girls at Cape Elizabeth” in their juried show, “Challenge the Norm.” Her oil painting “Mrs. Shapiro Makes the Hanukkah Latkes,” based on a scene at the Candlelight Stroll at Strawbery Banke, was accepted into the “Matter of Memory” exhibit at the Portsmouth Historical Society in 2024 and then won third prize at the Seacoast Artist Association’s Annual Members Awards show later that year. Debra worked in the book business for 40 years, beginning with Marshall Miller at the Paperback Booksmith in Newington. She spent seven years as a book buyer for Barnes and Noble in New York City.

There will be an artist reception from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13.

Most of the paintings will be for sale. Attendees can enjoy the vocals and cittern playing by her friend and fellow Manchester native, Carol Coronis of Portsmouth. Carol is known for her Balkan/Middle Eastern, Celtic, rock, and American roots genre and is also a weekend WUNH radio show host. She has been a member of the NH State Council on the Arts Traditional Arts Roster for Greek music since 2004.

The North Hampton Public Library is located at 239 Atlantic Avenue in North Hampton and is open Monday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 to 7 p.m., and Sat 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is closed on Sundays.
