Police: Hampton Teen Was Driving Drunk When He Crashed Car, Caused Gas Leak

Residents had to be evacuated from an apartment complex after the Hampton teen struck a natural gas line.

A Hampton man was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his car into a gas line in Exeter on Wednesday night and causing a gas leak.

The accident was reported at 8:38 p.m. at 37 Ernest Ave., according to police. Emergency crews responding to the scene found that a natural gas line near the apartment complex had been damaged due to the crash and was leaking. The residents were evacuated and Unitil responded to repair the line. There were no reported injuries.

The operator of the vehicle, Kevin Gaskin, 18, of 18 Fellows Ave., Apt. #4, in Hampton, was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of alcohol, operating without a valid license and transportation of alcoholic beverages by a minor. He was released on $2,000 personal recognizance bail and scheduled to appear in Exeter District Court on Aug. 12.
