Scherbon Up for NH Teacher of the Year

A local middle school teacher faces some steep competition after receiving a prestigious honor.

Seabrook Middle School's Rebecca Scherbon, a seventh grade language arts teacher, is among the 36 nominees for the 2014 New Hampshire Teacher of the Year award.

Scherbon, who was hired before the 2008-2009 school year, is the only Seacoast area nominee on the list, which is attached to this article as a PDF.

The New Hampshire Department of Education will announce the semifinalists in mid April, while the finalists will be selected in June and the winner will be announced in September, according to NHDOE's website.

A ceremony will take place next Monday in Concord to recognize all of the nominees.

If Scherbon wins, she would be the second Seacoast winner in the past four years. Eric Nash, a science teacher at Winnacunnet High School, was the 2010 New Hampshire Teacher of the Year.
