Selectmen Send 4.6% Budget Increase to BudCom

The North Hampton Select Board recently voted to recommend a $6,129,130 budget for the upcoming year.

The North Hampton Select Board recently voted to recommend a $6,129,130 budget for the upcoming year.

The proposed budget, which will now go before the North Hampton Budget Committee on Dec. 11, is $270,588 or 4.6 percent higher than the current year's $5,858,542 operating budget.

The proposed budget can still change before going before voters at the annual town meeting in March, but currently it's only $5,906 or .1 percent higher than the default budget, which is why selectmen said there was nothing else for them to cut without impacting or eliminating existing town services.

"I think it's the best we're going to get," said Selectman Larry Miller. "I think it's fair and necessary given the default budget."

Selectmen trimmed roughly $91,000 from the budget proposed by department heads earlier in the process.
