Town to Evaluate Mutual Aid Program After Fire Controversy

Good morning, Hampton and North Hampton. Here are five things you need to know for Tuesday, April 16:

1. Big Discussion on Tap: North Hampton selectmen have scheduled a special workshop to discuss the town's participation in the mutual aid program, particularly after issues and conversations have surfaced over fairness due to the fact that the Stratham Fire Department allegedly doesn't respond to North Hampton incidents.

The workshop session will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, at Town Hall.

3. What Else Is Happening Today? There's a North Hampton Select Board workshop at 10:30 a.m., WHS' JROTC Potluck Dinner starts at 6 p.m. in the JROTC building at the school, there's a North Hampton Planning Board meeting at 6:30 p.m., and the Hampton School Board will meet at 7 p.m.

Also, today is the last day of "Arts and Crafts with Mrs. A," and today was originally targeted as the grand opening of Pearls Hamburgers, although it has again been delayed a year.

4. This Day in History: On this day in 1943, in Basel, Switzerland, Albert Hoffman, a Swiss chemist working at the Sandoz pharmaceutical research laboratory, accidentally consumed LSD-25, a synthetic drug he had created in 1938 as part of his research into the medicinal value of lysergic acid compounds.

After taking the drug, formally known as lysergic acid diethylamide, Dr. Hoffman was disturbed by unusual sensations and hallucinations. Because of the incident, LSD made its entry into the world as a hallucinogenic drug.
