Fecal Bacteria Advisory Issued at Local Pond

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has issued a fecal bacteria advisory for a local pond in Derry following a sample taken on Aug. 28.

Chase's Grove Beach on Island Pond received the advisory on Thursday. According to the NHDES, another sample will be taken on Friday with new results available on Saturday.

The advisory will remain until bacteria counts are below the state standard. A yellow NHDES sign is typically placed at the beach to indicate that the advisory has been issued and that the water is not suitable for wading or swimming.

The sign does not indicate that the beach is closed to the public, but those in the area are advised to enter the water at their own risk.
