LONDONDERRY, NH — Londonderry police responded to the TJ Maxx parking lot on Feb. 14 for a report of a vehicle with a baby unaccompanied in the vehicle.

The caller told Londonderry police they waited at the car, a black Ford Focus, while the car owner returned to the car, allegedly smelling like alcohol, according to a police report. A few minutes later, police said they received a call saying there was a fight in progress — and that people had blocked a vehicle in, preventing it from leaving the parking lot.

A sergeant noted several individuals surrounding the vehicle. A 1-year-old child was in the car and Sean Jamieson, 36, of Manchester, who was later identified as the father of the young child.

Police interviewed Jamieson and he admitted to leaving the child alone in the vehicle while he ran into the NH Liquor Outlet, the report said. He was accused of telling a police officer he was in the store for “5 seconds to buy nips of alcohol.” Jamieson later told the officer he estimated it was more like 3 to 4 minutes, the report stated. He told officers when he returned to the car, he was confronted by several individuals and attempted to get inside his vehicle, at which point he said a male assaulted him attempting to get a hold of his car keys.

Jamieson shut the car off and locked it before going into the store, the report said. The officer noted in the report that the temperature was 30 degrees at the time of the incident.

Jamieson was given a standardized field sobriety test and there was no probable cause for driving under the influence, the report said. Jamieson was arrested and placed in handcuffs, and charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

The child's mother was called and came to the scene to take the child. A report of the incident was forwarded to DCYF. Jamieson was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Derry District Court on April 14.

Londonderry police said in the report that Jamieson's claims of being assaulted were unsubstantiated based on several witness accounts.
