
1. I HAVE A DREAM: Wednesday is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, and there are many things happening throughout the state and nation to mark a big day in the nation's history.
For instance, the University of New Hampshire will celebrate with an open public march from the Memorial Union Building to the Great Hall Lawn at 2 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a re-reading of the speech.
2. FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL: This week is the first week of school for local students. Londonderry Schools will be back in session on Tuesday. Check out the bus routes here.
3. SCHOOL BOARD MEETING PUSHED: The Londonderry School Board meeting, originally scheduled to take place on Aug. 27, has been pushed to Sept. 3.
4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this day in 1939, the first televised Major League baseball game is broadcast on station W2XBS, the station that was to become WNBC-TV. Announcer Red Barber called the game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York.
5. CHAMPIONS IN ACTION PROGRAM: Citizens Bank and the Union Leader are now accepting applications for their Champions in Action program.
