Here are the top 3 stories today in Manchester:
- Crystal Lake in Manchester has reopened! City health officials announced that Crystal Lake beach, the only public beach in Manchester, reopened Friday as bacterial levels dropped "just below" acceptable levels. City health officials, who closed the beach from Monday through Thursday, said the E. coli levels analyzed on Thursday were 84 per milliliter, while the maximum level is 88. They added that the Piscataquog River at Bass Island still remains high at 365 per milliliter. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
- A shout out to Manchester's Deborah Cross, who was named by Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) as July’s “Granite Stater of the Month.” After surviving Stage 4 cancer, and living cancer-free for four years, Cross helped other cancer patients "process their emotions and find resilience" through art. She used her artistic talent to create photo journals where she also found comfort. (Manchester Ink Link)
- Parents can sign up for a Pre-K reading program at Fisher Cats’ Princess Breakfast on Sunday. The New Hampshire Fisher Cats have owned forces with education nonprofit Waterford.org for its annual Princess Breakfast. Kids can come to the breakfast for something to eat while spending time with their favorite Princess characters. They will also be able to sign up for the nonprofit's free at-home reading program. The breakfast is on Aug. 7, from 10:30 a.m.-noon at Delta Dental Stadium, where the Fisher Cats will host the Richmond Flying Squirrels that afternoon. (Manchester Ink Link)
