Daniel Webster Council Completes Annual 'Scouting For Food' Week

Four Manchester scout units were involved in this year's drive.

On Saturday November 12th, Scouts from the Daniel Webster Council–Boy Scouts of America (DWC-BSA) completed the DWC-BSA’s 35th annual Scouting for Food Week in New Hampshire.

Each November since 1987, Scouts from the DWC-BSA have collected and delivered food items to food pantries throughout New Hampshire. The process is set forth below:

  • On Saturday November 5th, Scouts delivered door hangers to residents statewide requesting donated food items.
  • On Saturday November 12th, Scouts collected and donated food and make needed deliveries to participating agencies, food pantries and soup kitchens statewide.

A total of 109 DWC-BSA troop units participated in this year’s Scouting for Food Week, collecting an estimated 100,000 food items from across New Hampshire to provide support to over 60 agencies, food pantries and soup kitchens in locations such as Ashland, Keene and Portsmouth among many others statewide.

In a statement, DWC-BSA Scout Executive Jay Garee noted, “We are proud of our scouts and adult volunteers for once again living up to the Scout slogan ‘Do a Good Turn Daily’ and raising the bar for our 35th annual Scouting for Food week. The thousands of food items collected by Scouts in recent days will provide critical nourishment and support for friends, neighbors and communities in need.”
