About three dozen men, women and family members, carried out this community service, known as the Christmas Mitzvah (good deed) in honor of the program’s longtime chair, Dr. Sol Rockenmacher, who passed away Nov. 8, 2025. Sol, and his wife, Linda, led the program for many years.

This year, the Mitzvah volunteers also brought pies and cookies on Christmas Day for veterans living in the Community Living Center at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Manchester.

The Temple Adath Yeshurun Christmas Mitzvah Program, on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, organized by the TAY Brotherhood, has been in existence now for over 40 years. It is a fine example of how members of our Manchester Jewish community have been giving back to their non-Jewish neighbors, with enthusiasm, feeling and caring.

Temple Adath Yeshurun is a Reform Jewish congregation serving Manchester and surrounding communities. Brotherhood is the men's social and service organization that provides Jewish programming as well as community service events for adults and children.
