Here are the top stories in Manchester today:
- An earthquake of 2.3 in magnitude was reported on Saturday in Deering, New Hampshire, just West of Concord, near Crotched Mountain. The 2.3 magnitude earthquake shook homes in Deering and the surrounding area around 8:05 p.m. A police dispatcher that covers Deering, Antrim, Bennington, Hillsboro and Washington said "they received calls about homes shaking," but n damage was reported. The strongest earthquake to hit New Hampshire was a 5.6-magnitude quake in 1940 that caused damage to chimneys and walls. (WMUR)
- What happened to Still's Nursery at the busy intersection of Mammoth and Candia roads? The Mammoth Road landmark lawnmower and landscaping equipment repair shop moved most of its operations to a larger facility in Hooksett with more parking. Still's started as a family business in 1879 selling hay, and then transitioned to repairing lawn and landscaping equipment. Still's recently merged with Granz Power Equipment of Salem to form a new company with stores in Hooksett, Salem, Londonderry and Portsmouth. Fifth-generation owner Joe Chevalier, who married Charles P. Still’s great-great-granddaughter, said the repair shop on Mammoth Road "is still in use," but there is no direct access for customers. - Electric school buses may be coming to New Hampshire thanks to millions of federal dollars from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed late last year. The funds are to support a transition to electric vehicles, and clean-energy advocates here are hoping New Hampshire will be proactive about transitioning from polluting diesel buses. There is "$5 billion in funding for school districts to replace older diesel school buses with new, clean or zero-emission buses." Experts hope that could provide the incentive forNew Hampshire communities to make the move clean transportation in the state. "Political support for electric vehicles has been mixed in New Hampshire." (Subscription/The Union Leader)
