Here are the top 4 stories today in Manchester:

  1. A shout out to Lee Ann Provencher who became the first female member of the Manchester Board of Assessors to handle tax and home value issues. How significant is this news? Provencher is the first female member of the City of Manchester since the board was created in 1905. The Board of Assessors will continue to have two members after Aldermen voted not to add a third member, "as required by the Manchester City Charter," that could resolve issues when two assessors disagree, "which has happened during a hearing" leaving unresolved deadlocks. But Alderman Keith Hirschmann and Alderman Anthony Sapienza said, based on feedback, the Assessing Department is doing a good job and there's no need for the expense of adding another assessor. 2. The owner of the historically classic Goodwin Funeral Home on Chestnut Street in Manchester hopes to change the use of the property" to a halfway house with 30 residents." The funeral home, with its notable 1800s architecture, closed in October 2020 and had been operating as the Goodwin Funeral Home since 1874. The planning board would have to approve the change of use to congregate housing at 6:30 p.m. meeting Thursday. The home would be "a clinically managed halfway house" for clients to “reintegrate into society and the workforce with additional support.” (WMUR)
  3. Have you seen a blinking Department of Transportation sign on the Exit 4 North off-ramp? The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announced that the exit 4 off-ramp on 1-293 will temporarily be closed to replace guardrails, starting on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 8 p.m., weather permitting, until Monday morning, Aug. 8. (Manchester Ink Link)
  4. On Saturday, Aug. 6, a Queen tribute band called Queen Flash and singer Jordan Quinn will perform at The Dana Center at Saint Anselm College to benefit Ukraine. Proceeds from the concert, after expenses, will go to The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Ukraine Church in Manchester," to help women and children refugees." (Manchester Patch).
