Here are the top three stories today in Manchester:

  1. A Manchester man is accused of assaulting a woman and taking her five-month-old child. On Thursday night, a woman called the police to report the assault; investigators identified the suspect as 28-year-old Kevin Voisine, who was known to the woman. Later that evening, the baby was found safe and is currently "doing well," according to the Manchester Police Department; however, authorities still do not know the whereabouts of Voisine as of Friday. (WMUR 9)
  2. The Sununu Youth Services Center (formerly known as YDC) in Manchester has been mandated to close by Mar. 1. At present, the resident youths will be required to move out by that date; however, there is no current facility that can accommodate the children. Lawmakers are aiming to quickly pass a new bill that would extend the closure date, as well as build a new facility under the former name of Youth Development Center. (Manchester Patch)
  3. Following the clearing of the Pine Street encampment, several of Manchester's unsheltered are unsure of their next move. According to Adrienne Beloin, Manchester's new director of homelessness initiatives, the city "[doesn't] have a strategy yet to prevent encampments ... as much as there's suffering in the encampments, it's a sense of comfort to some degree, even though [residents] have to contend with many other discomforts that they wish they could change." As officials work to establish a long-term plan, Manchester has opened warming stations as well as emergency cots, with plans to create additional options for short-term shelter. (NHPR)
