Here are the top 3 stories today in Manchester:
- A windfall of $89 million in government funding will be allocated for New Hampshire programs thanks to the unrelenting efforts of Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH). Among the programs Shaheen fought for, she was able to get $250,000 for THRIVE New Hampshire’s "Makin’ It Happen" program that will expand mental health services in New Hampshire, including Auburn, Bedford, Candia, Deerfield, Goffstown, Hooksett, Manchester, and New Boston. Shaheen also pushed for $874,000 for updates to Manchester’s Public Library, so the City of Manchester can "conduct lead paint abatement, repairs and restoration work" at the City's public library. - A new exit is coming to I-93! Officials broke ground to begin construction of a new exit, 4A, off of I-93 in Londonderry. The new road "will improve traffic and spark development," development officials said. The $44.5 million exit "is expected to take two to three years to complete," according to Weaver Construction. Peter Bates of Weaver Construction, added, "We'll be working on the bridge this winter and earthwork depending on the weather." (WMUR)
- The controversy over Gunstock continues after the entire staff and leadership resigned in recent weeks and said they could no longer work with the commission's chairman. A new Gunstock Area Commissioner was sworn in. The commission rehired the management team, on the condition that the current chair, David Strang, resigned. Gunstock is owned by the county and has to have three commissioners in place to legally open and operate. Two of the other commissioners, Peter Ness and Gary Kiedaisch, resigned recently amid the turmoil. The commission said they're still planning to host "Soulfest," an annual Christian music festival at Gunstock this year. The resigning commission member had disregarded the event's contract, saying it would be the festival's last year. (WMUR)
