Here are the top three stories today in Manchester:
- A woman and her boyfriend are facing charges after stealing and attempting to cash a winning $3 million lottery ticket. Carly Nunes, 23, was a cashier at the Massachusetts liquor store where a customer purchased the winning lottery ticket, but he ended up leaving the store without them. Nunes and her boyfriend, Joseph Reddem, 32, of Manchester attempted to cash in the ticket, but lottery officials became skeptical after hearing the two argue. Detectives were able to track down the rightful owner of the ticket, and the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission has said it intends to honor the man's winning ticket. (KFOR)
- Four teachers have said they lost their jobs at nearby St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover for being members of or supporting the LGBTQ+ community. The school denies that claim for not renewing four teachers' contracts. However, many students, faculty, and parents believe differently. This comes after the school announced plans to have teachers participate in a training program organized by Person and Identity, a project of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, which has been criticized for being opposed to transgender people. - This weekend, four individuals were shot and injured during a gathering in Manchester. Police say two men in hoods approached the gathering, and at least one of them fired a weapon. Police are still investigating the incident, but say that the four adults are in the hospital and are expected to live. (FOX 23 Maine)
